Although a bit scattered at first, the group came together in the end to edit the Ethan Frome entry on Wikipedia. Ethan Frome is a text on many school’s reading lists and very influential when examining the literary technique of a frame narrative. The entry for the novel was a bit “empty” at first and was in need of detail from the novel, in addition to Edith Wharton’s inspiration for the novel. Before starting our research and editing the entry, we needed to familiarize ourselves with the editing process. This was probably the hardest part for the group because we had to adjust to an “encyclopedia voice,” as well as figure out how to add our own references into the citation section.
--Before Screen Shot 3
After taking screen shots of the page before we started editing, we divided up the different parts of the entry among ourselves, in order to simplify the research and editing process. Jessica was responsible for setting, opening, and background information, Ashley researched Edith’s personal impact on the novel which fell under the premise section, Rane and Richard worked as partners in order to research information regarding criticisms of the work, and Ben focused on adding to the plot section of the entry.
Each person researched their own section (s) and posted their findings to our wiki page under the Wikipedia rough draft section. After everyone completed their individual posting to the wiki rough draft page, we peer reviewed each other’s postings. Following the peer reviews, we began our initial edits to the Wikipedia entry. Richard completed his edits first during our first group meeting, followed by Ashley, Rane, Jessica, and Ben. Once everyone completed their individual edits to their designated section, we then edited the citation section and added our references within our edits. These are our “after” screen shots of the entry, and because we did add a good amount of information we now have four screen shots instead of the beginning three.
